4.4.11

She laughed, and I lost my hearing.

Note: This blog is actually dated April 1st, 2011 but I hid it in the month of March so her other friends who were in on her joke couldn't find it. My clever self tricked Sally with her own trick. This is my first real attempt at an April's fools joke. I'm 23. I'm so bad ass.

Although it like 35.68% failed...I realized it wasn't so funny, but I felt rather great in the process. =) As a result I have a whole bunch of pictures of Sally on my blog.

Sally Kikuchi is a very good friend of mine. =) After rummaging through some old photos, I decided to capture our friendship here on my blog.

So it started like this, this is me before I met Sally Kikuchi. Lost, confused, and a tad bit awkward, I had a difficult time making friends.

During this time, Sally Kikuchi also had a difficult time making friends for reasons I am unaware of.

Okay, okay I kid, we're actually both awesomely awkward people who like to laugh. See the excitement on her face due to the fact that we're friends? Yeah I know. She loves me.

Anyways, let's backtrack  well her Nikkei Student self was introduced to my REACH self by our friend Van. I am glad he is some use to our lives. (^_^)

I believe it was a blur of buying me a cookie to my first drunken night on her birthday to boba sproul chats on sproul, Sally Kikuchi became a really good friend of mine and has been one of the few people that are a constant presence in my life despite being so far away from me. Here is why sally is great:

She quiet photogenic:

She makes me laugh (and vice versa):

For some reason, lady gaga tends to be part of our conversations on gchat:

Sally: i forget
  do you like lady gaga?

14 minutes
1:13 AM me: she's cool i have no feelings really about her
  i like watching her videos
1:15 AM Sally: mmk

but i hecka love lady gaga

-----------------------------------------------------------

Sally: im listening to lady gaga before i go to bed haha

She tells these lame jokes, often repeatedly:

June 20, 2010 (on skype)
Sally: hey kim
how does lady gaga like her meat?
RA RA RAAAAAW
June 22, 2010 (on gchat)
9:35 AM Sally: hey kim

me: ah im glad you didnt tell me the punchline before the question
9:36 AM RA RA RAAAAAW

Sally: that was such a fail
 me: what were you thinking??
9:37 AM Sally: WHAT?!?!?
  NO WAY
when did i tell you this joke?!
  man

And now the last and final one, she tends to be pretty forgetful these days:

Sally: haha
11:12 PM so to get libby and jen for april fools
i created a fake email account
  "Larry Hanpril"

APRIL FOOLS' SALLY. Jokes on YOU. I hope your big head enjoys your date with Larry. I put in quite a few good words for you. HAHAHA.

Year of the Meow

This pretty much encompasses how I feel about the new year. After Patricia googled "jumping cat" this is what she found. And this furry leaping kitten coupled with our impossible-to-overuse life phrase "BOLD MOVES" it's going to be a good one folks. Happy New Years! Chuc Mung Nam Moi!

23.11.10

Lately, I've been trying to expand my vocabulary.

I think it's working. Now that I'm trying to speak Vietnamese at a beyond 5th grade level, I've come to realize that words such as eat, go, and no are not really enough to run a workshop. I will post my new vocabulary soon. Meanwhile, today during my last round of scholarship visits in Kien Giang (one of my favorite places to go for work where the dirt roads are red and the water is actually blue-green). For some of the house visits we had to cross the water on a little boat to get to their homes.

This boat that I rode on (and held onto for my dear life) is called a thuyền. In English, to my limited knowledge I only know boat, sail boat, raft, cruiser, and speed boat. I decided to ask my staff members and interns what type of boats there are, they gave me a whole list! YES to expanding my vocabulary to what I deem to be very useful terminology especially in the Mekong Delta.

with lovely pictures too.

I love peanuts!

Really I do, as evidence from my halloween costume this year. I decided to pay homage to Charlie Brown. A two dollar yellow shirt. Some black tape. My costume was complete!

Anyways here are some comics I found relevant to me today. and they're just cute.

Peanuts
In Vietnam, it rains alot.

Peanuts
Sometimes, I feel like this.

Peanuts
In Vietnam, they talk about your weight alot.

Peanuts
And in Vietnam, people are referred to the number they were born. In the south if you were first born you are Sister #2, if you are second, you are Sister #3 and so on.

20.1.10

my bad

seeing that my blog is slowly turning into a tumblr (no offense to the tumblr kids) where things that entertain me make their way and I provide no real commentary, I will attempt to recount my last few months that have, in all seriousness, blurred by, just like the previous months before these.

November

Location(s): Hong Kong (post Halloween), Saigon, Long Xuyen, Rach Gia
Music: RATATAT, I Heart Hiroshima, probably some Lykke Li
Video:

Recap: I got pink eye. I freaked out and thought I would go blind, then 2 days later I started to think it was sorta cool, if you put aside the pain and eye boogers that came with it (thank you codeine). I thought I would spare you from pictures I took of my red eyes, but for those who dare, click here. Someone asked me if she looked into my eyes, wether she could get pink eye too, and she proceeded to avoid eye contact with me. With that being noted, RATATAT was well the eye disease. Somewhere in the month: I woke up stumbled out of bed into the park to see some damn meteor showers.
A few mosquito bites later, none were seen, and I felt my bed calling me. Turkey day occurs. Earlier in the month I visited the homes of families who picked trash for a living, their existence was on trash, they played on trash, they slept on trash, they shopped in trash, and then trash had another meaning for me. This moment still leaves me a tad confused as I don't really know what to think. I consistently have contrasting experiences, from the loud honks of motorbikes to beating crescendo nights to things like this, where an eery silence fills the air because nothing else can.

December
Location(s): Saigon, Long Xuyen
Music: Lady Gaga, probably some Rilo Kiley, Animal Collective, and Bats for Lashes

Recap: I get lost with a xe om driver for nearly an hour. My cellphone doesn't have reception in rural areas. My ass hurts. Then Christmas occurs. I meet awesome folks. Friends begin to visit me. I fall in love with Vietnam more and more.

Current month: January
Location(s): Saigon, Long Xuyen
Music: Reverie Sound Revue, Zee Avi, a revisit to Arcade Fire & Smashing Pumpkins

Recap: I get food poisoning & my cellphone is stolen. Despite this, it's going to be a damn good year. I began it, by looking at my cellphone, since Vietnamese people don't count down. Mixed with interesting clubbing experiences, adventures with old and new friends comin' into Vietnam, site visits, and not really cleaning my room, this month has been a great doozy. Photos will be uploaded shortly. I'll end this entry with a video that I am currently obsessed with, for its great playlist of songs, and the simplicity behind it.
